Porsche Macan Official Teasers Released

9:20 AM
Following the first ride in the new Porsche Macan, the company has released a new Macan microsite on the Porsche website. This includes new sketches and a teaser of its new SUV. The production model will be unveiled at the LA Motor Show on November 20.

The website doesn’t give much away, although Porsche’s policy of putting the economy figures of any model featured on its Facebook page does mean that we now know the Porsche Macan’s 254bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel will return a claimed 46.3mpg and emit 159g/km of CO2. The range-topping 394bhp 3.6-litre V6 Turbo claims 30.7mpg and 216g/km CO2 emissions.

Meanwhile, the teaser image reveals that the Macan will feature a similar design of quad LED daytime running lights as the new 918 Spyder. The design sketches also confirm that the tail-light design will be closely related to the recently facelifted Panamera.

The pictures also reveal the curve of the car’s roof, which blends into a tailgate-mounted spoiler at the rear. Porsche says its designers call this sloping roofline the flyline.

The Macan is predicted to become the best-selling model in Porsche’s range and continues the company’s transition from niche sportscar maker to a premium carmaker in its own right. It’ll also be the cheapest, with the diesel set to start at just under the current entry level Boxster’s starting price of £38,237.

A quick look at the sales figures for the first six months of 2013 shows that Porsche shifted 28,720 Boxster, Cayman and 911s combined, while it sold 52,845 Panameras and Cayennes combined in the same period.

That means 65 per cent of new Porsches are saloons and SUVs, with the arrival of the Macan set to increase this stat still further. Some analysts predict that Porsche will sell as many as 65,000 Macans in its first year on sale, as Porsche pushes towards its goal of selling 200,000 cars per year by 2018.
