Rumors about the 2015 Ford Mustang have ranged from mouthwatering to downright boring, and today Car and Driver magazine learned pretty much all there is to know about the new-generation Mustang. Of course the image you see here is CGI, but according to the magazine, it is pretty close to the real deal.
We have to say that if the new Mustang indeed looks like this, then the next-gen Camaro is in for a big fight.
According to the report from C&D, the Mustang will adopt design elements seen in the rest of the Ford lineup, like the trapezoidal grille and the thin, wraparound headlights. Despite these new elements, the model will retain the distinctive Mustang elements — sequential taillights, for example..
We’ve known for quite some time that the 2015 Mustang will sit atop an all-new chassis that will feature an independent rear suspension, plus it will drop about 200 pounds when compared to the current model. What’s huge about the C&D report is that they uncovered the engine lineup too.
First up is a little disappointment for those of you looking to snag up the Mustang the second it comes out. According to the report, the 2015 Mustang will initially carry over the current engine lineup. This means it will come with either a 3.7-liter, V-6 engine with 305 horsepower or the "Coyote" 5.0-liter, V-8 with 420 horsepower.
After the Mustang has been on dealer lots for a bit of time, Ford will start offering a 2.3-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder with a reported 310 horsepower. This will likely be a resurrected SVO.
For those of you who believed there wouldn’t be a Shelby version — us included — the big surprise is that it will continue on with the same 662-horsepower, 5.8-liter, V-8 engine. New to the lineup will be a EcoBoost twin-turbo V-8 engine — code named "Voodoo" — that will find its way into the GT350 model; this engine is reported to put down 550 to 600 horses.
On top of that, C&D also reports that the 5.0-liter "Coyote" V-8 will get a retune several months after launch, jumping it to 500 horsepower, plus Ford is "considering" using the EcoBoost, 3.5-liter, V-6 in a mid-range model — the same engine in the Taurus SHO .
Remember, these are all rumors, so who knows what is real and what is not....
