Peugeot 308 R Concept 2013

Peugeot’s participation at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show next month is becoming clearer and clearer by the day. With a little under a month left before one of the biggest auto shows in the world opens its doors, the French automaker is slowly giving us an idea on what it’s planning to bring to Frankfurt.

One of these models is a concept vehicle based on the 308. It’s called the 308 R Concept and if you look at it based on the first images that have hit the Internet, you won’t be off base if you thought the model looks more production car than it is a concept one.

There are no gaudy lines or out-of-this-world technologies, only a sharply-dressed red-and-black 308 that comes with a large body kit comprising of new bumpers, side skirts, a rear-mounted spoiler, and a set of massive alloy wheels. The car also appears to be lowered, judging by its close proximity to the ground, and lastly, the dual exhaust system on the rear hints at a powerful engine that you normally won’t associate with the mild-mannered 308.

As far as the engine is concerned, we’re only speculating on this end, but we think it’s going to be similar to the 1.6-liter THP found under the hood of another new Peugeot that bears the company’s performance "R" badge, the RCZ R. Should that be the case, expect an output of around 270 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, good enough to hit 60 mph in 5.9 seconds with an estimated top speed of 155 mph.

More details are expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. But we have a feeling that we’ll be seeing more of the 308 R Concept in the near future.
